PARENT DISCUSSION GUIDE

SAY: Jesus feels emotions just like we do. Jesus wanted us to know how to work through our emotions, so He gave us the Bible to help us learn!

DO: Get out a piece of paper and crayons. Encourage your child to draw a picture of Jonah and the whale while you guide them through the discussion below.

ASK: Why was Jonah sad or afraid when God asked him to go to Nineveh? (Answer: He did not want to go.)

ASK: Should Jonah have run away from God? (Answer: No. God wants the best for us, so we should always try to do what God wants us to do.)

ASK: Does God love you when you are sad or afraid? (Answer: Yes! God understands our emotions. Even Jesus had different emotions.)

ASK: This week, if you feel sad or afraid, what can you do? (Answer: Stop, look, and listen. STOP and realize how you feel. LOOK around to see why you feel that way. LISTEN to the Bible and remember that God loves you and is there for you!)

PRAY: God, thank you that you love us even when we make mistakes. Thanks for letting us know that it’s okay to be sad or afraid. Please help us this week to “stop, look, and listen” when we are upset and remind us how much you love us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

PARENT DISCUSSION GUIDE

SAY: Jesus feels emotions just like we do! He is fully God, but He is also fully man. Jesus wanted people to know how to deal with how they feel. God gave us the Bible to help us work through our emotions. When we read God’s Word, we build a firm foundation in our life so that we know how to deal with our emotions in the right way.

ASK: What can help us deal with how we feel?

ASK: Next time you feel sad, what can you do? (Answer: Stop to figure out what you feel, look to figure out why you feel that way, and listen to God’s Word.)

ASK: What is a verse from God’s Word that you can remember during the next time you are sad? (Answers may vary. Parents, if you have a favorite verse, share it with your kids! Some examples: 1 John 3:20, Philippians 4:6, Jeremiah 29:11, Psalm 46:10. Look up these verses together and have your child pick one to remember this week.)

PRAY: Jesus, You have all the emotions we have, but yet You never sinned. You took our punishment so we can trust You and be with You forever! God, when our emotions don’t feel good to us, please help us to stop, look, and listen to your Word. Thank you for helping us get through anything that is going on. We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

We’d like to thank our home church in Indiana for graciously allowing us to access their programming.  For more information, visit their website at http://www.tpcc.org/kids-online.

Renovate Kids Ministry

We value each child and family who comes to Renovate Church. Renovate Kids Ministry is a special ministry designed for children 6 months to 4th grade. We believe each child is created to have a relationship with God and has unique talents, abilities and callings, which need to be cultivated. Our passion is to see each child growing in their relationship with God and His purpose for their lives. We are also passionate about Kid’s Ministry being offered in a fun, friendly and safe environment, so children can experience the love of Jesus on their level.

6 months to Pre-K

Through playtime, music, and teaching, we partner with parents to introduce babies and toddlers to God, and his son, Jesus. Babies are given special attention as volunteers care for infants and play with older babies who are on the move. Toddlers play and explore as we provide lots of opportunities for them to move and stay active. Through fun and interactive Bible lessons and music, kids are appropriately introduced to God and the world he created.

Elementary (Kindergarten to 4th grade)

Through interactive activity, teaching, small groups, and music, we partner with parents to build a strong biblical foundation for kids. During each service, kids learn about Jesus and the Bible and have time to reflect and pray. Age specific lessons are designed to capture kid’s attention and imagination.

Baptism

We’re so excited that you and your child are talking about baptism together. When it comes to baptism at Renovate Church, we have a few short steps for you and your family. We hope this will help kids and parents understand what baptism really means as they make this important decision in following Jesus.

First, pick up a copy of our baptism info booklet, All In for Jesus, A Guide for Children to Understand Their Faith. Please read and work through the book together as a family, and make sure to write the Letter to Jesus that is mentioned in the back of the booklet. Next, you and your child should meet with one of our elementary staff. During this meeting, we’ll talk about the decision to follow Jesus, what baptism means, why we do it, and what baptism changes about our relationship with God. If you would like to schedule a meeting or have any questions, please feel free to contact April Jamerson here.
