MAY 31, 2020 | “When I’m scared, God is with me.”

DO:  Gather a blank piece of paper and coloring utensils.  Draw an outline of a monster on the paper using the example attached OR download and print the “Make a Monster” coloring page.

SAY: We all get scared sometimes.  Even MoMo Monster, from our story, gets scared sometimes. When we get scared, we can remember that When I’m Scared, (make scared face) God Is (both hands point up) With Me (thumbs to chest).

We are going to talk more about what we learned today.  First, you will get this picture of a monster.  Next, we will talk about part of today’s story.  Then you will get to draw something on your monster.  Then we will repeat this until our monster is finished.  Last, we will pray together as a family.

ASK: God told Moses to choose 12 of friends to go with him to a brand-new place they had never been to before.  Would you be happy or scared to go to a brand-new place you have never been to? (Allow child to respond) We can always remember that no matter what, God is with us.  Can you draw eyes and arms on your monster?

ASK: Some of the men may have been scared to go somewhere new but they knew God was with them and went to the new land.  When they got there they saw some yummy food and a bunch of new people they didn’t know. Do you like meeting new people? (Allow child to respond).  Meeting new people can be hard sometimes.  Can you draw a mouth and legs on your monster?

ASK:  Sadly, all the men were scared and wanted to leave the new land because they forgot that God was with them.  But 2 men named, Joshua and Caleb, remembered that God was with them and they weren’t scared.  If you remember God is with you, would that make you happy or sad? (allow child to respond) Yes, I would be happy too!  Now add anything to your monster that you want.

SAY:  Your monster can help us remember that God is always with us. One way we know that God is always with us is because we can talk to Him anywhere and anytime.  Let’s talk to Him now together by praying.

PRAY: Dear God, thank you for always being with us! Help us not be scared by remembering that you are always with us. We love you! In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

MAY 31, 2020 | “Bust fear With Courage.”

DO: Gather a bag or container that you can’t see through.  Inside, place 3 different food items for your child to eat that they will recognize and enjoy.

SAY: God loves us and promises to help us. In Hebrews 13:6 says, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. People can do nothing to me.”  That is a verse to help us remember we can have courage any time we are afraid.

We are going to continue talking about what courage is, but you can practice showing courage by closing your eyes after each question and allowing me to put a mystery piece of food in your mouth. Ready?

ASK: Who has courage in the Bible Story to do the right thing? (Joshua and Caleb had courage, let’s practice courage right now, close your eyes, open your mouth and I’ll put a piece of food in your mouth for you to try.)

ASK: When you need courage, what should you do? (You should do the right thing and know God will help you. Go ahead and close your eyes again and open your mouth for another surprise piece of food!)

ASK: Is there someone you can think of that has courage? How have they shown courage? (Could be a person they know or a character in a book or movie.  Then have them close their eyes one last time and eat the final piece of food.)

SAY: You showed courage when you said you would try a new food, even though you did not know what was inside the bag. Today, we talked about how we can bust our fears by having courage. Courage is doing the right thing, knowing God will help you! Let’s thank God right now for helping us when we need courage.

PRAY: Share as a family anything you want to talk to God about.  Then pray together about those things.  Ask God to give each of you courage to do what is right and thank God for always being with you.

Renovate Kids Ministry

We value each child and family who comes to Renovate Church. Renovate Kids Ministry is a special ministry designed for children 6 months to 4th grade. We believe each child is created to have a relationship with God and has unique talents, abilities and callings, which need to be cultivated. Our passion is to see each child growing in their relationship with God and His purpose for their lives. We are also passionate about Kid’s Ministry being offered in a fun, friendly and safe environment, so children can experience the love of Jesus on their level.

6 months to Pre-K

Through playtime, music, and teaching, we partner with parents to introduce babies and toddlers to God, and his son, Jesus. Babies are given special attention as volunteers care for infants and play with older babies who are on the move. Toddlers play and explore as we provide lots of opportunities for them to move and stay active. Through fun and interactive Bible lessons and music, kids are appropriately introduced to God and the world he created.

Elementary (Kindergarten to 4th grade)

Through interactive activity, teaching, small groups, and music, we partner with parents to build a strong biblical foundation for kids. During each service, kids learn about Jesus and the Bible and have time to reflect and pray. Age specific lessons are designed to capture kid’s attention and imagination.

Ministry contact

For more information, please contact April Jamerson, Children’s Ministry Director, here.

We’re so excited that you and your child are talking about baptism together. When it comes to baptism at Renovate Church, we have a few short steps for you and your family. We hope this will help kids and parents understand what baptism really means as they make this important decision in following Jesus.

First, pick up a copy of our baptism info booklet, All In for Jesus, A Guide for Children to Understand Their Faith. Please read and work through the book together as a family, and make sure to write the Letter to Jesus that is mentioned in the back of the booklet. Next, you and your child should meet with one of our elementary staff. During this meeting, we’ll talk about the decision to follow Jesus, what baptism means, why we do it, and what baptism changes about our relationship with God. If you would like to schedule a meeting or have any questions, please feel free to contact April Jamerson here.
