PARENT DISCUSSION GUIDE
Materials Needed: Bible materials)
There’s a verse in the Bible that tells us that God doesn’t look at what we look like on the outside, like our hair and our clothes, but that God looks at our hearts. He wants our hearts to be happy because He loves us so much. I want to teach you this verse. “…the Lord (both hands point up) looks at what (cup hands around eyes) is in the heart.” (pat heart) 1 Samuel 16:7 (make book with hands)
Say: Let’s play red light, green light. When I say, “green light”, you need to go and when I say, “red light”, you need to stop. Every time I say, “red light”, I’ll ask you a question from the story. Discussion Questions/Statements: o Did King David have a heart that loved God or a heart that did not love God? o When David did wrong things, God forgave him. Tell me about a time that you did the wrong thing. Then let’s ask God to forgive you. o God loves you and has good plans for you! You say it! “God loves me and has good plans for me!”
Dear God, thank You for loving me. Thank You for giving me such great promises. Help me to love others how you love me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
During this series, we’ve had so much fun finding out how to be kids after God’s heart. We took a look at our own hearts and made sure they are following God and everything He says to do. One thing God says is good for our hearts to do is to be obedient. When we do what God says to do in the Bible, we are obeying Him. Hearts that are after God obey what His Word says. That’s what we need to know today! As a family, read 1 Samuel 16:7 from a Bible or Bible app.
Say: In today’s story, we recapped some different times that David was after God’s heart. Let’s talk about how we can be like David in these ways. To make this time more engaging, you can throw or kick a ball back and forth, build a temple with blocks, or draw a picture of David. • David was brave when he defeated Goliath. Where is somewhere that you need to be brave right now? • David was respectful to Saul. Who is someone you should be respectful toward? • David repented when he did wrong things. Is there anything you need to repent for? • David obeyed God when God told him not to build the temple. Are you being told not to do something even though you really want to?
As a family, share things that you would like to pray about. Ask that God would help you have hearts that are obedient. Pray for God to help you be brave, respectful, repentant, and obedient. Pray that God will help your heart follow after Him.
Renovate Kids Ministry
We value each child and family who comes to Renovate Church. Renovate Kids Ministry is a special ministry designed for children 6 months to 4th grade. We believe each child is created to have a relationship with God and has unique talents, abilities and callings, which need to be cultivated. Our passion is to see each child growing in their relationship with God and His purpose for their lives. We are also passionate about Kid’s Ministry being offered in a fun, friendly and safe environment, so children can experience the love of Jesus on their level.
6 months to Pre-K
Through playtime, music, and teaching, we partner with parents to introduce babies and toddlers to God, and his son, Jesus. Babies are given special attention as volunteers care for infants and play with older babies who are on the move. Toddlers play and explore as we provide lots of opportunities for them to move and stay active. Through fun and interactive Bible lessons and music, kids are appropriately introduced to God and the world he created.
Elementary (Kindergarten to 4th grade)
Through interactive activity, teaching, small groups, and music, we partner with parents to build a strong biblical foundation for kids. During each service, kids learn about Jesus and the Bible and have time to reflect and pray. Age specific lessons are designed to capture kid’s attention and imagination.
What to Expect
Visiting us for the first time? One our of volunteers will be happy to register and check in your child.
Your child’s safety is of the highest importance to us. Every volunteer at Renovate kids is required to have a background check. Each week you check in, you’ll receive an assigned number that you will use to pick up your child. If you lose your child’s corresponding tag, you will need to present identification in order to receive your child.
Allergies and special needs
If your child has food or environmental allergies or special needs, we’ll make a note so team members are aware. Make sure to let us know of any unique concerns at check in and we’ll do our best to accommodate you and your child.

We’re so excited that you and your child are talking about baptism together. When it comes to baptism at Renovate Church, we have a few short steps for you and your family. We hope this will help kids and parents understand what baptism really means as they make this important decision in following Jesus.
First, pick up a copy of our baptism info booklet, All In for Jesus, A Guide for Children to Understand Their Faith. Please read and work through the book together as a family, and make sure to write the Letter to Jesus that is mentioned in the back of the booklet. Next, you and your child should meet with one of our elementary staff. During this meeting, we’ll talk about the decision to follow Jesus, what baptism means, why we do it, and what baptism changes about our relationship with God. If you would like to schedule a meeting or have any questions, please feel free to contact April Jamerson here.
